Miss Em's Music Studio

Welcome to Miss Em's Music Studio

I am a classically trained pianist. I have been playing piano for over thirty years. I participated in festivals, testing and recitals during formal training. I earned my Bachelor of Arts Degree, with an emphasis in Piano Pedagogy, from Concordia University, Ann Arbor, in 1998. I have been teaching privately since the completion of my degree. I have been trained in the philosophy of Musikgarten. I accompany for choirs as well as vocal and instrumental soloists. I am also the Director of Worship and Music at Faith Lutheran Church, Grand Blanc.

I am a member of the Flint Music Teacher’s Association (FMTA), Michigan Music Teacher's Association and National Music Teacher's Association. I am the current President of the FMTA and Student Achievement Testing (SAT) chair person. Student Achievement Testing is a Michigan standardized test for piano students held in March. I use SAT as a curriculum base for my teaching. I also attend workshops and conferences to keep up with the new trends in teaching material, technology and music available. I enjoy using the resources of many web-based teachers.

My goal in teaching piano is to create students who love music. I use a variety of tools to teach musical concepts while trying to instill a general love of music. I am firm with practice policies, but feel they are a means to an end. Without growth there cannot be appreciation. Each student is unique and I try to teach accordingly. I am always filled with joy to see excitement in the eyes of my students when they pick up new concepts.
